It is not every day where our work at Southern Precision Spring becomes part of our entertainment. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy engineering springs and perfecting my craft and that in itself is entertaining; however, it is certainly rewarding to see some of my work on a national broadcast during a lazy Thursday night.
Take an episode of the popular TV series, Ice Road Truckers. Known for its riveting portrayal of truck drivers navigating icy terrains in Canada and Alaska, it's a favorite of many, myself included. But imagine my surprise when, on a laid-back Thursday night, Season 9 Episode 5 titled "Power Trip" showcased a component I crafted: a Southern Precision Spring Wire-form in pristine Stainless Steel.
This wire-form, designed meticulously by our team, plays an essential role in guiding bowling pins to their respective positions. While I've been part of its conception and have seen its manufacturing up-close, witnessing it in action was a surreal experience. The episode highlighted a driver sidetracked to a bowling alley due to a truck malfunction, where our component was clearly visible.
The realization that our precision parts can make such a substantial difference in diverse applications and processes was exhilarating. And who would've imagined that this moment of pride would come from a TV show episode? It's moments like these that underscore the unexpected journeys our products embark on and the vast value they bring—especially when they make their way to the big screen!
So, whether you're an engineer or just an enthusiast, remember that the intricate details, like our specialized springs, can often be the unsung heroes in the backdrop of larger narratives.
